Fight the Signs of Aging with Botox and Dermal Fillers

Botox and dermal fillers can fix agingThere are many people who look in the mirror and wish they could get rid of the wrinkles on their face and restore their youthful appearance. They also wish for smoother skin and less fine lines on their face. Aging is unavoidable but fighting the visible signs of aging is not impossible thanks to advances in cosmetic surgery. One of the most popular ways to fight the aging process is through the use of Botox and fillers. Both of these treatments have grown in popularity as they have been shown to help smooth out wrinkles and make the skin look younger than the patient’s actual age. Before deciding which treatment to undergo, it is helpful to better understand the two treatments.

Botox is a neurotoxin as well as a paralytic. This means it temporarily paralyzes the muscle in which the neurotoxin is injected.  Botox is typically used to treat wrinkles, crow’s feet and smooth out the skin. On the other hand, dermal fillers add volume to areas like the cheeks which have a tendency to lose volume as a person gets older. Dermal fillers can also be injected to fill in the areas where wrinkles appear. Some of the more popular fillers include Juvederm and Restylane.

It is worth mentioning that Botox can be used for more than reducing fine lines and wrinkles on the face without the patient having to undergo any kind of surgical procedure. Botox can also be used to treat twitchy eyes and even bladder issues and intense sweating.

There are a few negatives associated with the use of Botox. It can cause allergic reactions in some people on rare occasions. It also limits the range of facial expressions that the patient is able to express for a number of months. The limited facial expressions include the inability to fully smile as well as some facial movements. While the facial limitations are not permanent, it is something that patients need to consider before having a Botox treatment.

Getting dermal fillers is not the same as having a facelift. While fillers help to reduce the signs of aging on older people as well as help prevent the aging signs on younger people, dermal fillers are injected into a person. They are not the same as having a surgical procedure.  Surgery can produce longer lasting as well as more dramatic results in a patient. Dermal fillers (as well as Botox) are a temporary measure that requires follow-up treatments on the part of the patient. Think of Botox and fillers as more of a preventative measure and not as a permanent solution.

While dermal fillers don’t always produce side effects in patients, there is a chance of skin rashes, infections, swelling, bruising and even some asymmetry occurring after the filler is injected. These side effects are rare as dermal fillers are actually considered to be a very safe procedure for patients.

The results from Botox and dermal fillers often outweigh any possible side effects in the minds of most patients. There are few people in the world who welcome the signs of aging on their face. The fight against the visible signs of aging is shared by many people from Hollywood stars to everyday people. It’s best for a patient to do some research into the pros and cons of the treatments including the costs, side effects and recovery time associated with Botox and dermal fillers.
