Juvéderm

Juvederm is a dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid which is a natural substance found in the body. While most dermal fillers use collagen to plump the skin, Juvederm makes use of hyaluronic acid to improve the look of severe facial wrinkles and folds. It can also be applied to the mouth, nose or forehead as well as used as lip filler or to fill-in acne scars.

Treatment Details

Juvederm is generally used to combat the effects of aging such as wrinkles or fine lines. It is an FDA-approved procedure and the results can last up to a year. However, results vary depending on the patient as well as the look the person is trying to achieve. The entire injection process only takes about 15 minutes, is performed in a doctor’s office and shows immediate results. A minimal recovery period is required after the treatment which makes it a good option for those who cannot take a lot of time off work or out of their everyday lives.

The treatment is not recommended for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding because the impact it might have on a child has not been determined. In addition, patients who are on immunosuppressive therapy should not have Juvederm injections because of an increased possibility of infection.

Risks and Side Effects

There are several side effects that patients should be aware of before making the decision to have the treatment and they include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Itching

Although a physician might use local anesthesia to numb the area before any injections, patients run the risk of experiencing some pain and discomfort immediately after the treatment. In general, Juvederm patients should avoid exercise, exposure to the sun and alcohol 24 hours after having the filler.

Cost

Juvederm syringes come in different sizes in order to treat different areas and the cost varies depending on the size of the syringe. The average cost for the treatment can range from $450 to $600. Please note the price might be higher in certain parts of the country depending on the prices charged by the individual doctor, any facility fees and the area of the country where the treatment is performed.
