Treatment

Longer, thicker lashes are the goal of almost every person that wears mascara. Makeup companies have been built on the solution of providing people with shorter, thinning lashes the option of making their eyes more pronounced with temporary fixes like fake eyelashes, mascara and eyeliner. Then came the revolutionary solution of Latisse.

Latisse is essentially bimatropost, which is similar to a natural chemical produced by the body called prostaglandin that has the pressure relieving qualities that aid in the treatment of glaucoma. In fact Latisse was originally developed to treat glaucoma only. But, when applied at the base of the eyelash hair follicles, Latisse was proven to aid the body in growing longer, thicker eyelashes in higher quantities. Once thought as just a side effect of the glaucoma treatment, has now become a reason of and in itself for the drug to be prescribed. Though, recipients should be mindful not to get Latisse in their eyes if they are already being treated with bimatropost for glaucoma because the addition of extra Latisse can make the treatment less effective against the glaucoma.

Common side effects when using Latisse include itching, eye redness, eyelid irritation and discomfort. It is also important to keep in mind that hair growth can happen in other areas of the body where the medication frequently comes into contact with. If a rash, swelling, dizziness or discharge (infection) occurs when using Latisse, it is important to call a doctor or visit a hospital immediately because this can be a sign of an allergic reaction.
